Lucerne can be easily reached by train. A really nice place for a day trip along the edge of the lake. The 14th-century Chapel Bridge is one of the main attractions and is currently (and likely to remain) Europe's oldest wooden bridge. Next to the bridge, the Water Tower is a part of the historic city walls. A pleasure to stroll among locals and visitors alike in what has to be one of the cleanest and safest places in the world.
